Les Matières / School Subjects

  1. Learn how to say your school subjects in French. Go to Linguascope and atantôt KS3

  2. French to Go 1 p44 - practise your spelling of school subjects

  3. Quizlet - try the speller and test sections in particular to see how well you have learnt the subjects

  4. Revise the verb AVOIR to say which subjects you have. Check out the Justin Bieber version à la Étienne!

  5. Learn the verb ÉTUDIER - to study. Work in pairs to say which subjects you study

J'aime - Je n'aime pas / Likes - Dislikes

  1. Revise how to say you like or dislike something

          1. Likes and Dislikes

              1. j'adore - I love

                1. j'aime beaucoup - I like a lot

                3. j'aime assez - I quite like

                4. j'aime - I like

                5. je n'aime pas - I don't like

                6. je déteste - I hate

  1. To ask a person if s/he likes a subject, you say: Est-ce que tu aimes les sciences? Or you can simply say: Tu aimes les sciences? (and make your voice go up). Practise asking and answering these questions about your school subjects

  2. Here are some more things you can say about your subjects - atantot KS3. A particularly good phrase to remember is: Ma matière préférée est ...(my favourite subject is)

  1. Revise your numbers 0-60 (See Topic 2 under Giving your address)

  2. Use Linguascope to help you learn to tell the time in French (La Vie au Quotidien - L'Heure)

  1. To ask the time you say: Quelle heure est-il? Find out how to give the time by going to French to Go 1 p48-51. Do Ex 1-5 to practise recognising and writing the times

  2. Now you can use the times to say when you have classes. Make sure you change from il est... heures (it is ... o'clock) to à ...heures (at ... o'clock) -eg) J'ai un cours de maths à 2h30.
