Learning Objectives

In this unit you will learn how to

In honour of the upcoming 14th of July (French National Day), we are throwing a tricolore lunch.

The entertainment will be a shared responsibility.

Bring something fun and festive to eat (bleu, blanc and rouge) on the day.

You will meet other students of French and check out some really cool French music: suggest a French song (or one with a French connection) before Friday the 27th of June.

  1. Learn this vocabulary to help you invite a friend out, accept and refuse invitations

  2. Use Language Perfect (Invitations) to practise this new vocabulary

  3. Roleplay the conversations from Studio 1 p76

  4. Go to Linguascope, Intermediate, Les Sorties (going out) and listen to the introductory conversation. Work through some of the exercises.

  5. Work on the conversation in Les Sorties, by doing these exercises in pairs

  6. To invite someone out and to say you want to go (or don't want to go) you need the verb VOULOIR

  10. To refuse an invitation you sometimes need to say what you can't do or must do instead. Study the verb POUVOIR

  14. Practise inviting out your classmates and responding to the invitations. Make up your own conversations

  15. Sometimes you need to ask some questions to find out more information about where, when, who with, at what time etc. Practise asking and answering questions with your partner

  16. Another way to invite someone out is to say you are going to go somewhere and do they want to come. For this structure you need to learn the verb ALLER + INFINTIVE to go. Review the verb conjugation below

  17. Sing along with Étienne to learn the verb aller by heart

  18. Practise using aller + infinitive from Studio 3 p12 Ex 1

  19. Now try to make up a longer conversation using aller + infinitive and include more detail

  20. Go to languagesonline and click on le futur proche (the near future) to practise saying what people ARE GOING to do.

  21. Try these guided conversations. In pairs prepare one of the conversations and act it out fluently to the class, who have to guess which one of the suggested conversations you have chosen

  22. Listen to these conversations in which people are being invited out (bonjourdefrance) and answer the questions

Socialising on the Internet
