This is idea sketch for the seating posture sensor. Along a bottom edge of the seat, or (1), there are number of switches that make a contact with the tip of the wall of the base, or (2). The switches will be made out of conductive material such as a tin plate and underneath I will put a line of thin sponge to avoid a rough contact between the two piece. In between (1) and (2), there will be a wooden ball as a ball bearing that allows to tilt the seat in multiple directions. Also, all the physical wirings will be placed inside of the base.
The option 1 can have just the switches, which it will allow me to have about the 4 ~10 contacting points, from pin 9 ~ 13 and A0 ~ A4. However, if I add PIR sensor to collect the data only when the person is seating at the seat, then the number of the contacting points will be reduced to 3 ~ 9 points.
The option 2 is more interactive with the users, as it will have either a light or sound that emits corresponding to the points. It will be an interesting observation to see how the result between option 1 and 2 will be change because of the outputs.
