1. I had 196 cards and I bought 264 more. How many have I got altogether?

3. I have got 8 bulk chippie packets to sell at the social. If there are 15 little packets in each how many packets have I got altogether?

4. If I sell each packet of chips for $2 how much money do I make?

6. 96 apples have to be put into 8 crates. How many apples need to go in each crate?

7. I had $64. My Mum told me I had to save 3/4 of it. How much do I have to save? How much can I spend?

8. I had 132 marbles and my friend Tom won 69 of them. How many do I have left?

1. I had 268 cards and I bought 296 more. How many have I got altogether?

2. There were 123 books on sale. At the end of the day 78 had sold. How many are left?

3. The farmer had 5 paddocks. If he put 12 cows in each paddock how many cows does he have altogether?

4. Tim, Aroha and Manawa decide to pool their marbles together then share then evenly between the 3 of them. Tim has 30, Aroha has 27 and Manawa has 18 . How many marbles does each person get?

5. There are 19 teams at the touch tournament. If each team has 8 players how many players are at the tournament?

6. 75 apples have to be put into 5 crates. How many apples need to go in each crate?

7. I have got $12 which is 3/4 of my savings left. How much money did I originally have?

3. The farmer had 8 paddocks. If he put 13 cows in each paddock how many cows does he have altogether?

4. Tim, Aroha and Manawa decide to pool their marbles together then share then evenly between the 3 of them. Tim has 48, Aroha has 66 and Manawa has 57. How many marbles does each person get?

1. I had to give 3/4 of my card collection to my brother. To start with I had 84 cards, how many have I got left?

2. I have read 5/8 of the book I am reading. I am up to page 150. How many pages are in the whole book?

3. I have 48 apples. If I give 1/6 to each of my 6 friends how many do they get each?

4. I earned money washing cars. I am going to save 2/3 of what I got. If I then have got $15 left how much money did I earn in total?

5. I have 5 cakes that I have to share between 3 people. How much does each person get. (Draw pictures to help you)

Week 8

1. The netball team had a cupcake sale. The had 150 cupcakes and they sold 2/3 of their cupcakes at morning tea time.

At lunchtime they sold 2/5 of the cupcakes they had left. How many cupcakes did they sell? How many cupcakes were left to sell?

If the cupcakes were $2 each how much money did they make?

2. I have been reading a book which has 250 pages. If I am 2/5 of the way through the book what page am I up to?

3. The netball team has been only getting 3/4 of their goal attempts in. If the final score was they lost 18 - 23, how many attempts at goal did they have?

4. Mrs. Leary’s class visited the animal shelter to see the animals that were available for adoption. They counted 24 animals in all.

• 1/3 of the animals were dogs.

• The rest were cats.

• How many dogs were at the shelter? How many cats were at the shelter?

6. Tadpoles and Frogs

Mrs. Puglisi’s Year 3's visited the park nature center to see the tadpoles and frogs. They counted 20 animals in the tank.

• 3/4 of the animals had already changed to frogs. The rest were still tadpoles.

• How many frogs were in the tank? How many tadpoles were in the tank?

Week 5

1. The pizza place has three tables. The biggest one seats three times as many people as the smallest one. The middle sized table seats twice as many people as the smallest one.

On Tuesday night three-quarters of the seats were taken. Then twelve more people arrived. Unfortunately there were only enough seats for half of them.

How many people can sit at the smallest table?

2. The Pizza Place in my town has three tables of the same size. The Chicken N Chips restaurant has four of the same sort of table. The Chicken N Chips can just seat 24 people. How many people can The Pizza Place seat?

Now a third of the seats at The Chicken N Chips were empty and a half of the places at The Pizza Place were empty. If 18 more people wanted to eat out, how many would have to be turned away from the two restaurants?

3. Sam earned some money for doing odd jobs for his neighbours. His mother suggested he saved a 2/3 of what he had earned. If he had $18 left how much had he made altogether?

Fraction word problems.

1) There are 28 children in the class, and ½ go to the library. How many children go to the library?

2) There are 12 paint brushes. I give 3/4 to Miss Chainey. How many do I have left?

3) There are 20 sweets in a packet. How many are there in 1/4 a packet?

4) A ball is usually $2, but it is in the ½ price sale. How much is the ball now?

5) A big cake needs 4 eggs, a small cake needs 3/4 the amount of eggs. How many eggs do you need to make a small cake?

6) A fish is 15cm long, how long is 2/5 of the fish?

7) There are 18 slices of ham in a packet. Mum uses 2/6 to make the lunch, how much is left?

8) Jake has 4 rounds of sandwiches, but only eats ½. How many rounds has he eaten?

9) Mrs Carter gets 30 new books. She lends 2/3 of them to Miss Young. How many books does she lend to Miss Young?

10) Wallis Falls is 100 km from Newtown. Most people stop 3/4 way for a break. How many miles have they gone before they stop?
