I'm at school that uses school zone

This page may disappear or change if an alternative way of doing this is found (i.e. click on a button to say you're in a school zone network, click it again when you're not).

School Zone is Telecom's offering for filtering web content for learners of school age.

Unfortunately, it requires some set up. The problem is that it affects a whole range of things. Not JUST browsing but also the way the system updates itself. In fact, lot of programs use the Internet so it's not good enough to just change these settings from inside Firefox.

Fortunately Ubuntu has a way that we can do this all in the one place. To set this up:

    1. Go to the menu.

    2. Select System.

    3. Find and click on "Network Proxy".

    1. Change the settings on this window to look like the following:

    1. Click on "Apply System Wide". It will ask you for a password. This is the same password you use to log on.

    2. You should now be able to browse the Internet. You may be asked for authentication. You will need to ask who ever is in charge of School Zone for your school for those details if necessary.
