By default, there are two users in the system. Guest and your own personal log in. What do you do when you want to get rid of a user? Or if you want to add other users (such as family)?
Click on the Ubuntu logo found at the top left of the screen (The menu button).
Go to System on the right hand side of the screen.
Once in the menu, scroll right down to the bottom of the screen. Look for this icon:
Click on Users and Groups. The following window should appear:
To Delete a user:
Select the user from the left pane and click on Delete.
To Add a user:
Click on Add. The following screen should appear:
The Name field is for the users Full Name. The short name is the name the user uses to log in with.
Once you've fulled in these details, click on OK. The following screen should appear:
You have two options here:
Set the password by hand: It's usually best to get the intended user to input this.
Set a random password: This will result in a really horrible password which the user will need to change.
Click on OK once you have entered a password.
To edit permissions:
Each user has a set of permissions. For example, not all users can configure your system or do certain things with video display and you can even restrict who can have sound. Generally speaking you should not have to do this.
Select the account you want to alter in the left hand pane.
Click on Advanced settings.
It will ask for your password. Authenticate (to prove it's your computer). The following window will appear.
Click on the User Privileges tab. It should look like the following:
Put ticks against the items you want to give the user permission to use. Otherwise remove the ticks for those you don't want the user to have access to.
Click on OK once you're done.
