Level 2 Food Technology at Ormiston Senior College is a practical, design-focused course where students develop food products to meet the requirements of their own briefs. You’ll explore food chemistry, product development, sensory evaluation, and current food trends, while learning how to design and produce high-quality food outcomes. The course combines research, experimentation, and practical work, giving you the skills and knowledge to take an idea from concept to finished product.
Active participation in the Food Technology Semester course in Level 1, or experience in another Technology subject is ideal.
A work ethic and sufficient time management skills to complete a large portfolio over of work over a number of terms.
In this course, you will learn to apply a technology process to create food products that meet a specific purpose or need. You’ll research and identify opportunities for your project, plan and test recipes, and use sensory evaluation techniques to refine your outcomes. You’ll build a portfolio documenting your research, development, and design decisions, alongside producing your final food products. The course develops practical cooking skills, problem-solving ability, creativity, and an understanding of how food products are developed in real-world contexts.
This course leads to Level 3 Food Technology and further study or careers in food science, culinary arts, hospitality, catering, nutrition, product development, and other food-related industries.
