Throughout this course, you will:
Explore the different aspects of war, looking specifically at New Zealand's involvement in wars over its short history.
Develop a range of research and inquiry skills to build a deep understanding of a range of sources and how you can construct history.
Explore how to construct narratives through historical concepts and using historical evidence.
Students will be investigating Aotearoa New Zealand's history through conflict both internally and externally. From the establishment of unity through the Kīngitanga Movement to the impacts of the Waikato Wars on Aotearoa's memory. To then explore Aotearoa New Zealand's search for its own identity throughout the 20th Century. Students will explore New Zealand's journey from being a British dominion, to a fully functioning independent government that has standing in the international community.
