(Answers will be posted on the next school day)

Find the value of each expression if y = 4

1) y + 6 = 2) 7 x y = 3) 12 / y = 4) y - 2 =

5)

6)

Thursday's Answers

1) b - 8 = 4 x 3

b - 8 = 12, so b = 20

2) 2 + f = 22 / 2

2 + f = 11, so f = 9

3) 9 x y = 8 + 28

9 x y = 36, so y = 4

4) 28 - 21 = j / 3

7 = j / 3, so j = 21

5) Find the mean, median and mode for each group

of numbers.

1, 10, 4, 8, 8, 4, 10, 4, 5

Mean: 1 + 10 + 4 + 8 + 8 + 4 + 10 + 4 + 5 = 54 / 9

Mean = 6

Median:1, 4, 4, 4, 5, 8, 8, 10, 10

Median (middle number) = 5

Mode (number that comes up the most) = 4

6) Jeanne has $12 in her piggy bank. Use the expression below to figure out how much money she needs to buy a game that costs $28?

12 + m = 28

12 + 16 = 28, so m = 16

Jeanne needs $16 more dollars to buy a game.

Wednesday's Answers

1) b - 5 = 4 + 3

b - 5 = 7, so b = 12

2) 17 + f = 4 x 6

17 + f = 24, so f = 7

3) 12 x y = 9 x 4

12 x y = 36, so y = 3

4) 14 - 6 = j / 2

8 = j / 2, so j = 16

5) Find the mean, median and mode for each group

of numbers.

A) 7, 5, 3, 7, 7, 6, 7

Mean: 7 + 5 + 3 + 7 + 7 + 6 + 7 = 42 / 7

Mean = 6

Median:3, 5, 6, 7, 7, 7, 7

Median (middle number) = 7

Mode (number that comes up the most) = 7

6) 6) Tommy gives half of his marbles to Sally. He gave her 24 marbles. How many marbles did Tommy have to start with?

1/2 of ? = 24, so Tommy had 48 marbles.

Tuesday's Answers

1) b x 7 = 28

4 x 7 = 28, so b = 4

2) d x (4 + 17) = 21

1 x 21 = 21, so d = 1

3) (23 - t) / 7 = 3

21 / 7 = 3, so t = 2

4) (17 + 3) x f = 60

20 x 3 = 60, so f = 3

5)a)Tammy wants to buy 3 packs of gum at $1 each and 4 candy bars at $2 each. She has $10. Does Tammy have enough money?

Write an equation and solve the problem in order to answer the question.

= 10 - (3 x 1 + 4 x 2)

= 10 - (3 + 8)

= 10 - 11

= -1

No, Tammy does not have enough money because the cost of the candy is $11.

b) Tammy is in luck. There is a 10% student discount. How much does Tammy save? Does she have enough money after the discount.

What is 10 % of $11?

0.10 x 11 = $1.10

11 - 1.10 = $9.90

Yes, Tammy has enough money to buy the candy after the discount. In fact, she even gets $0.10 in change.

c) Oh no! Tammy learns that there is a 13% tax added to the cost (after the discount is applied)?

Does Tammy have enough money after the discount and tax are applied to the price of the candy?

What is 13% of $9.90

0.13 x 9.90 = 1.287 (round to the nearest hundredths or penny)

$9.90 + $1.29 = $11.19

Sadly, Tammy does not have enough money to buy the candy.

6)

The correct answer is a 200 + 7 + 0.08 + 0.003

$20 - ( 5 x $1.50 + 2 x $3)

= 20 - (7.50 + 6)

= 20 - 13.50

= 6.50

Travis gets $6.50 back.
