Writing Samples

In this activity, the students were shown this picture of a house. They needed to pretend it was the main setting in a story they were writing. This is what they come up with...

1) I walked through the trees and saw a round modern blue house. The bunch of windows on the house caught my attention. Without thinking, I walked along the wooden path to get a closer look. I saw a great big tree staring up into the big blue sky. When I turned around, I saw flowers swaying from the wind as if they were wanting to be set free. I then turned to the house, the smell of the garden was infecting my nose with a very delicate smell. ‘’Home, finally home, ‘’ I said to myself as my mom walked out the front door….

2) I walked through the trees and saw the mysterious house. I saw the beautiful flowers littering the fresh green grass. It smelt like it was freshly cut and the trees shadowed the octagonal, blue house. The greyish, white path led up to the wooden porch and on my right I saw a bird feeder. It was so peaceful it sounded like flowers were singing, birds chirping and I was so curious of what was inside. “Home, finally home,” I said to myself as my mom walked through the door...

3) I sailed through the water and saw a weird house on an island. There was a yard with freshly cut green grass and a garden that had beautiful yellow, purple and red flowers. The house had 11 windows and was light turquoise and white. It had a lighthouse sort of shape. 4) I walked through the beautiful meadow and saw a lonely house. Trees sprouted along the round, blue octagonal house and luscious purple flowers grew in the garden. Big green hedge walls surrounded the house side to side. A shiny wooden deck laid at the the white front door. Flowers of different colours and short green vines dangled from the window cill. A stone path led the way to the house and on each was short green grass. “Home finally home,” I said to myself and my mom walked through the front door…

5) I walked through the trees and saw the blue house. As I walked to the blue house, I noticed we were on an island. We noticed that there were 8 windows. I could see myself in the reflections of the big windows on the main floor. There were beautiful flowers outside. 6) I walked through the trees and saw a light, sky blue octagon shaped house. The front was lit up by the lamp in the beautiful flower that filled the garden. It was in a meadow with luscious green grass in the middle of the forest. It had a stone pathway that lead to the deck. On the deck there were white garden chairs and a table. It smelled like red rose and fresh pumpkin pie just out of the oven. “I’m finally home,” I thought as I walked through the door.

7) I walked through the trees and saw the beautiful modern round house. When I was walking in the wooden porch I saw beautiful flowers on the side of the door. All of the windows were clean and you could see your own reflection. Trees were looking upon of me when I went inside. While I went inside I saw a beautiful sofa and with a fabulous modern blue walls. ‘Home finally home,’ I said to myself as my mom walked through the front door...
