Writing Activity - Wish Tie Card

Suggested Father's Day Activity

Follow these steps to create a card for your father on Father's Day:

1) The outline for the poem has been shared with you in your language folder. Open the file and read the poem. Note that the poem is about wishes that you wish for your father. It has been started and ended for you.

2) Complete the poem. You need to finish the 3rd and 4th stanzas with wishes for your father on Father's Day. (Make sure to erase the lines and letters.) The poem is written using rhyming couplets, which means it follows an AABB rhyming pattern.

3) Edit your poem and make sure it follows the rhyming and rhythm patterns. You also need to ensure that every line begins with a capital and ends with a period or comma.

Share it with me for feedback.

Options to complete your card:

1) Print your poem and Wish Tie Front (also shared in your Language Folder). Glue papers onto a piece of construction paper or cardboard to make a card. Colour and decorate the card.

2) If you do not have a printer, copy the poem onto a piece of paper. Use the Wish Tie Front as a guide to a make a front of your card on another piece of paper. Remember that it is important to include a picture of a tie on the card. Glue papers onto a piece of construction paper or cardboard to make a card. Colour and decorate the card.

Media Studies Project

Class Yearbook

Together, we are going to create a virtual Class of 2020 yearbook for you to keep as a reminder of your final year at Convent Glen Catholic School.

Please follow the steps below and as always, email me if you have any questions.

* You are going to use the skills that you acquired completing your magazine project to construct and design TWO amazing pages all about you.

* A Google Slideshow has been shared for you in your Language Folder.

* Please remember to ONLY work on your own slides.

* Unlike the Farewell Celebration slide, this page is all yours to design within the framework outlined below.

* Note that I have added your name to your two slides using Word Art.

Slide 1 - All About ME

* Choose a background. Make sure that it is subtle and does not overpower the words or photos on the page.

* Your FIRST name should be prominent. Use the WORD ART functions to make your name FANCY.

* Add facts about you. Things like your birthday, your family, favourite things, sports, hobbies, etc. (See 'Note' below)

* Add a photo or two of you. At least one photo should be a photo from this year which clearly shows your face. You can choose one from your files or copy and paste your grad photo. The second photo can be one from your childhood or a picture of you doing something you love to do.

* Adjust the fonts and photo sizes. Make sure that you fill up the page.

Hint: You can use a lot of the information from your 'All About Me' slide in your Magazine Project.

Slide #2 - Who I Am

* Use the same background as your first slide.

* Slide #2 should be set up similarly to the silhouettes that sixth grade students have done in previous years.

* Insert words, pictures, photos, logos, anything that describes YOU!

* Again, use the WORD ART functions to make your name, words and phrases FANCY.

* Adjust the fonts and photo sizes. Make sure that you fill up the page.

****Please try to be finished designing your page by JUNE 19th.****

Thursday's Answers

1)

The correct answer is c Triangle 3

2)

In order to convert m^2 to cm^2, remember what we did in class:

Picture a square with an area on 1 m^2, the length and width could be 1 m by 1m.

If you convert the length and width to centimeters, they would be 100 cm by 100 cm.

Now, if you calculate the area of the square in centimeters, it would be 100 cm x 100 cm = 10 000 cm^2

S0, 10 000 cm^2 = 1 m^2

The correct answer is d 10 000 cm^2

3)

The 8th term is the final Y of the pattern, so is the 16th term, the 24th term, in fact, all of the multiples of 8 would be that Y.

So, the 80th term would also be that Y. Therefore, to find the 82nd term, just count two more and you can see it is an R.

The correct answer is a R

4)

The multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, and 12.

The chances of spinning a multiple of 3 are 4 out of 12

So, the probability is 4/12 or 1/3 or 33%

5)

Area of front: 5 cm x 4 cm = 20 cm^2

Area of side: 4 cm x 4 cm = 16 cm^2

Area of top: 5 cm x 4 cm = 20 cm^2

Sum of areas multiplied by 2 because there is also a back, bottom and second side = 56 cm^2 x 2

Surface Area = 112 cm^2

The correct answer is d 112 cm^2

Wednesday's Answers

The correct answer is c.

2)

Step #1 - Calculate how many students signed up for drama:

130 - 38 - 13 - 33 - 14 = 32

Step #2 - Find percent of students who signed up for drama:

32 out of 130 or 32/130

= 0.246 or 25%

Susan is correct.

3)

Day 1 - 3

Day 2 - 6

Day 3 - 12

Day 4 - 24

Day 5 - 48

Day 6 - 96

The correct answer is B Day 6.

4)

Area of a Triangle = Base x Height / 2

= 24 x 5 / 2

= 60 cm^2

The correct answer is a 60 cm^2

5)

Maddie Mean - 20 + 23 + 28 + 21 + 23 = 115 / 5 = 23

Lisa Mean - 21 + 22 + 26 + 25 + 26 / 5 = 120 / 5 = 24

Maddie Median (Middle Number) - 20 21 23 23 28 = 23

Lisa Median - 21 22 25 26 26 = 25

The correct answer is a lower than Lisa's mean score.

Tuesday's Answers

1)

The correct answer is d (9.3)

2)

The correct answer is d Multiply by 3 and subtract 1

3)

The correct answer is b 0.75 metres (or 75 centimetres)

4)

(164 + 168 + 178 + 180 + 180) / 5 = 174 cm

The correct answer is G 174 cm

5)

What is 25% of 500?

0.25 x 500 = 125

So, The correct answer is A 100

Monday's Answers

1)

After a 1/4 turn opposite of a clock, and two 1/2 turns, the lady bug is pointing down.

The correct answer is b

2)

210.625 - 53.452 - 59.371 - 47.582 = 50.22

The correct answer is a 50.220

3)

The correct answer is d 9000 cm^3

4)

Using the number line, the probability of the event occur is around 75%

The probability of rolling an odd number is 1/2 or 50%

The probability of rolling an even number is 1/2 or 50%

The probability of rolling a number larger than 2 is 4/6 or 67%

The probability of rolling a number smaller than 3 is 2/6 or 33%

Therefore, the correct answer must be c

5)

The pattern is to add 37. So:

Term 6 - 152 + 37 = 189

Term 7 - 226

Term 8 - 263

Term 9 - 300

The correct answer is c 300

Friday's Answers

1)

2 x 4 + 3 = 11, so n = 4

The correct answer is b 4

2)

72 / 9 = 8, it does NOT equal 9

The correct answer is d

3)

a + c = 24, so 24 + e = 27, e = 3

The correct answer is a 3

4)

6 x a = 54, a = 9

b - 9 = 14, b = 23

So, a x b is 9 x 23 = 207

The correct answer is d 207
