Band on a break? Keep making music!

Post date: Apr 2, 2020 5:58:05 PM

Mrs. Menke misses all of her 5th grade musicians and hopes that they and their families are safe and healthy! Here are some few ideas to keep playing:

A. Padlet (virtual bulletin board) - I will keep posting fun activities, play-along duet videos and more!

B. Zoom meeting/Jam Session - all you need is your instrument and band book! Join me on Wednesdays at 2:00. Directions to connect will be emailed to parents, for students' safety the "waiting room" feature will allow Mrs. Menke to only allow recognized student names. Please have: headphones, instrument, band book, piece of scratch paper and pencil - it will be great to see each others faces!!

C. Flipgrid - share what you are playing! I will post videos of me playing different instruments and songs too! Password was emailed to parents.

D. SmartMusic - a great music software program where you can access our band book and fun music! In order to use the SmartMusic software, you need to create an account and join the "Lakewood 5th Grade" class using this class code: DWRPZ-MMVTW.

1. Solo Festival celebration - congratulations to all students that performed their solo for family and friends on March 7! I will hand out their certificate and ribbon out once we return to school. Congratulations on the Outstanding Soloists pictured below:

2. Instrument switching - I started to hear more questions about students wanting to switch, I strongly recommend students stick with their original instrument as they will want to be ready for 6th grade level music!

3. Pep Band - here are 2 videos of us playing for the Boys State Basketball send-off, click VIDEO1 VIDEO2

4. Around-the-World practice challenge #2 - we have finished the journey of meeting our goals, so many students made it home, click HERE for the video slideshow.
