Independent novel studies are student-guided. Students will be given the options of novels, provided quantities are available at the school. Each student is responsible for completing an independent novel study before the end of the semester. Students will be provided ten to fifteen minutes at the start of class to read their novel, as well as additional class time 6 school weeks before their assignment is to be handed in.

CR 30.1 View, listen to, read, comprehend, and respond to a variety of grade-appropriate First Nations, Metis, Saskatchewan, and Canadian texts that address: identity, social responsibility, and social action.
CC 30.4 Create a variety of informational and literary texts that are appropriate to a variety of audiences and purposes including informing, persuading, and entertaining.
CR 20.1 View, listen to, read, comprehend, and respond to a variety of grade-appropriate First Nations, Metis, Saskatchewan, Canadian, and international texts that address identity, social responsibility, and social action.
CC 20.4 Create a variety of written informational and literary communications.
CR 10.4 Read, interpret, and draw conclusions about the ideas, information, concepts, and themes presented in a variety of literary and informational texts.
CC 10.3 Use oral language to express a range of information and ideas in formal and informal situations-- retelling a narrative.
CC 10.4 Compose and create a variety of written literary and informational texts attending to various elements of discourse (purpose).
