Overview: The K-12 Aim of the Saskatchewan English Language Arts curricula is to help students understand and appreciate language, and to use in confidently and competently in a variety of situations for learning, communication, work, life, and personal satisfaction.

Students will:Comprehend and Respond (CR) (WORTH 50% )· View, listen to, and read texts that address identity, social responsibility, and efficacy· Select and use appropriate strategies before, during and after viewing, listening and reading· Use and apply knowledge of the pragmatic, textual, semantic, graphophonic and other cues and conventions when viewing, listening and reading· View and demonstrate comprehension and response· Listen and demonstrate comprehension and response· Read and demonstrate comprehension and response· Identify and reflect on strengths when viewing, listening, reading, speaking, writing and using other forms of representing· Set goals to improve skills and strategies when viewing, listening, reading, speaking, writing and using other forms of representingCompose and Create (CC) (WORTH 50 %)· Create a range of visual multimedia, oral and written texts that explore identity, social responsibility and efficacy· Select and use appropriate strategies before, during and after speaking, writing and using other forms of representing· Use and apply knowledge of the pragmatic, textual, syntactical, semantic, graphophonic, and other cues and conventions when speaking, writing and using other forms of representing· Create and communicate using a wide variety of forms when speaking formally and informally· Create and communicate using a variety of forms when writing· Identify and reflect on strengths when viewing, listening, reading, speaking, writing and using other forms of representing· Set goals to improve skills and strategies when viewing, listening, reading, speaking, writing and using other forms of representing
