Committee Type: Advisory
Committee Description: Representatives from Academic Affairs, Student Services and the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology make recommendations on how best to provide quality online teaching and learning and support student success. This committee meets on a regular basis during the fall and spring semesters.
Functions of the Committee:
Makes recommendations to the Academic Senate and Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology regarding distance learning instruction and resources.
Reviews according to established criteria and recommends applications from faculty for the development of courses for online delivery.
Reviews the college-wide online and hybrid course offerings and seeks opportunities to advocate for and support programs and departments that would benefit from adding to their online offerings.
Provides recommendations about the access to student services (such as counseling, financial aid, student health) to support distance learning students.
Collaborates with Library & Learning Resources to provide distance learning students with tools, resources, and strategies to help ensure student success.
Provides a forum for evaluating evolving issues in distance education and online learning.
Makes recommendations for professional development and pedagogy in distance learning, specifically promoting equity in online classes.
Reviews and makes recommendations on the Distance Learning Handbook on an annual basis.
Recommends and advocates for distance learning programs and resources in college-wide plans and budgets.
Interprets changes in state and federal regulations that impact distance education and recommends policies and procedures resulting from these changes.
Regularly reviews student success and equity data. Makes recommendations to improve student success and eliminate opportunity gaps in online learning.
Committee Membership:
12 faculty (with the goal of a diverse membership representing a variety of departments across the college including 1 librarian and 1 counselor, 1 non-credit), 3 resource members (the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology), 2 administrators including 1 from Student Services, 1 classified staff member, 1 student.
