On Monday, September 23, the Kearney High Future Business Leaders of America hosted their annual FBLA Olympics. The traditional event is a collection of several “minute-to-win-it” activities in which members compete for the opportunity to win sponsored dues or a free FBLA t-shirt. This year, our members split into six teams of three. The teams participated in eight games: Balloon Levitate, Skittle and Straw, Oven Mitt Saran Wrap Surprise, Donut on a String, Chopstick Starbursts, Feather Relay, Business Suit Relay, and Balloon Cup Relay. Overall, the team “Another Name” won first, followed by team “Benjamin” in second and teams “Harish Hoagies” and “Jag” settling for third and fourth, respectively. Highlights of the night included Secretary Isabella’s Saran Wrap Surprise and Gabi’s business suit relay. In Isabella’s game, member’s attempted to unravel a large saran wrap ball— concealing coins and candy— before the player to their right manages to roll two six’s on a single roll of dice. To make the matter more difficult, the teams had to either wear mittens or restrict themselves to one finger on either hand. As the game progressed, individuals were allowed to use more fingers and the crowd became more aggressive. The members sought the delicious treats trapped inside the ball and the most valuable coins ensnared between each layer. Team “SPEW” won the event, far exceeding the rest of the teams in dollar amount. The teams enjoyed the tasty candy throughout the rest of the night.
