Tonight our guest of honor was Dick Cochran, our own chapter’s parliamentarian’s Grandfather! Mr. Cochran is quite an accomplished businessman. He worked at 18 for Schwann’s Foods and drove a truck, and he eventually worked his way up to the vice president. After he retired from that position he started Hot Meals USA. They currently have 1.2 million food packages given away. In March 2019 he helped deliver food to those who needed it with the flooding happening in Kearney. His team fed 19,000 people here and a lot more in other parts of the state and Iowa. Mr. Cochran is working hard to make sure everyone has a good meal in their stomach but he doesn’t do it alone. He only has volunteers helping with the work and he doesn’t earn a penny since Hot Meals USA is a nonprofit organization. The thing is that Mr. Cochran is worried about the security of nonprofits since the average volunteer is now over 65. This means that volunteers are becoming fewer and that is scary, but with more information about issues like this, he is sure that more people will take up volunteer work!
