Assignment for Medium Level Stories
Directions: You are going to create two graphic organizers for both irony and foreshadowing. Then you will turn one of those graphic organizers into an analytical paragraph about the story. In writing your paragraph, you must PEAL on your paper.
Remember to PEAL on your paper!
Point- This is where you state your claim about what you believe to be the truth/right answer.
Evidence- This is where you go back to the text and pull direct quotes that support your thinking from the point you made.
Analysis- This is where you explain how the evidence that you found in the text (your direct quote) shows that your point/thinking is correct. You must connect your analysis to your quote and your original point. If you don’t have a good analysis then your evidence and point are irrelevant.
Link- This is where you connect your conclusion back to the point you are trying to make.

Why the event is ironic and how does it enhance the story
Examples of Foreshadowing (must be a direct quote)
What does it foreshadow?
What is the author’s purpose in allowing the reader to know this information?
1. After completing the two graphic organizers for both irony and foreshadowing, choose one to help you write an analytical paragraph.
2. Your paragraph should be in proper paragraph form (11 sentences minimum) and you must PEA on your paper.
3. Your paragraph should be an analysis of how either irony or foreshadowing affected the story as a whole.
