MTSS
The Minnesota Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MnMTSS) is a systemic, continuous improvement framework for ensuring positive social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and academic outcomes for every student. MnMTSS provides access to layered tiers of evidence-based practices and relies on the understanding and belief that every student can learn and thrive. The Becker Public Schools MTSS Handbook follows the guidance and implementation requirements of the state using resources available.
MTSS Model
Tier I is high quality, evidence-based academic and social/emotional core instruction designed to achieve maximum growth for all learners. Standards-based instruction is differentiated by content, process, product or learning environment to meet the diverse needs of all students. Progress is monitored through summative and formative assessments to inform instructional decisions.
Supplemental intervention targeted to a specific need delivered in small groups by a trained teacher, specialist or paraprofessional. Interventions are evidence-based and provided in addition to Tier 1 classroom instruction. Progress is monitored frequently to ensure the intervention is working and progress is being made toward independence across settings.
Tier 3 interventions are intensive and individualized. This doesn't mean that the student must receive a one-on-one intervention. It means that the student receives instruction/support more often, for longer periods, and the intervention is increasingly customized to address each student's unique needs. Progress is monitored weekly and regularly reviewed by the Tier 3 team. More intensive problem-solving protocol is initiated when students are not responding. If a student does not make adequate progress at this level, a comprehensive special education evaluation may be recommended. For secondary students, a core replacement class or highly individualized and diagnostic intervention may be considere.
