The courses provide the first of three required levels of in-college apprentice training for the above trades, enhancing students’ employability to continue in their trade after secondary school graduation. Operating in partnership with Fanshawe College, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD), the School College Work Initiative (SCWI), and area school boards, the program is available in quadmester 3/4 only.
Main Features

become registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Labour, Training & Skills Development (MLTSD) while accumulating hours/competencies that count toward eventual completion of said apprenticeship
costs covered for transportation, tuition, text books, and Personal Protection Equipment (as required)
How it Works
students attend an appropriate trade-related co-op placement, arranged through their home school, for the first half of semester 2 or (Q3) with sufficient accumulated hours scheduled to earn two (2) co-op credits
students provided daily transportation from April to June to attend in-school training at Fanshawe College London for 309A, 310S, 403A, or 429A; Woodstock for 332A; St. Thomas for 433A
successful completion of the Level One course earns two (2) secondary school *dual-credits
suitable applicants are selected through an application/interview process beginning in the Fall
Stipulations
applicants should have attained their compulsory credits and a minimum of 26 credits, and be available to attend co-op exclusively starting in semester two.
applicants should have prior Technological Education credits that relate to the trade (or equivalent)
their co-op placement must be appropriately qualified and willing to ‘sponsor’ the student with a “Registered Training Agreement” (RTA) in the specified trade (no extra cost or obligation to employer)
parent or guardian signature mandatory for those under 18 years of age
Important Notes to Students
full attendance is expected in College courses; more than three days absent will result in removal from the course and failure to receive any credits. (e.g., this may impact ability to attend Prom activities)
an overall passing mark of 60% is required, while maintaining a “2.0 GPA” in each course module; falling below 2.0 will deny Level One completion with loss of some or all of the secondary school dual credits
strong math skills are required; an aptitude test is included in the selection process
these are intense 240 hour courses requiring your full commitment to complete all activities and assignments
acceptance is not guaranteed and may be competitive
