How to Apply for HPSS, OXFORD COUNTY, and TVDSB Awards

Each year at Commencement thousands of dollars in awards and scholarships are awarded to deserving Huron Park students of all academic levels and backgrounds. To be eligible to receive an award, you must complete the online Awards Application.

Step 1: Join the HP Awards and Scholarships Google Classroom - code:

Step 2: *under Classwork* Read through the descriptions and criteria for each of the HPSS, OXFORD COUNTY, and TVDSB Awards listed.

Step 3: *under Classwork* Complete the 2024/2025 HPSS Awards & Scholarships Application (once only) and TURN IT IN.

Step 4: *under Classwork* Complete the online TVEF Application (once only)

Step 5: *under Classwork* Submit your two Reference Letters (once only) in PDF form - TURN IT IN.

Step 6: *IF an award states that financial need is a consideration, you must complete and submit the Financial Need Form that is posted *under Classwork* Financial Need Form - TURN IT IN. You only need to complete the Financial Need Form once.

Important Note: To be considered for all awards, you must submit both the HPSS Application (via Google Classroom) and the online Thames Valley Education Foundation (TVEF) Application, including any supporting documents (e.g., reference letters, financial need form, essays, etc.). In most cases, both applications will require largely the same information.
Some awards require a special application. These will be clearly indicated in the criteria, and the application form will be available there as well.

These websites provide information on how and where to look for scholarships. After you have completed an online questionnaire, appropriate scholarships and bursaries will be suggested.

HINT: be very specific when completing the survey in order to limit the number of scholarships that are selected for you. For example, choose only ONE career, post-secondary destination or program.

- Contact the Financial Aid Office at the college or university for scholarships, awards and bursary opportunities and requirements.

Parent’s Work / Your Work / Volunteer Organizations

- Corporations, unions or employee groups may have bursaries and scholarships for their employees and their employees’ children. Check with the Human Resources Department at work.
- Service groups such as Rotary, Kiwanis, Kinsmen and Masons can be a source for scholarships.

Community

- Check with organizations that you are involved with (banks, unions, churches, sports clubs, girl guides, etc…) to see if they offer any financial awards.

8 Tips for Submitting a Great Scholarship Application

1. Passion for the Subject - Only apply for an award if you actually have an interest in the subject matter. Your passion or disinterest will be reflected in your writing.

2. Research - Do the appropriate background work and find out exactly what a specific scholarship panel is looking for. Read the rules and regulations/terms and conditions.

3. Clarity of Thought - Be clear and concise. “How” you communicate is just as important as “what” you’re trying to communicate. Answer the essay question and only provide relevant information. Do not go over the word limit count.

4. Not a Resume - Your scholarship application essay is not a substitute for your resume so don’t simply re-write your résumé in essay form. Don’t list, discuss! Expand on your personal experience and clearly articulate your goals.

5. Structure, Spelling & Grammar - Be aware of proper essay structure. Always double-check your spelling & grammar and have someone proof read your work.

6. References – Ideally, references should be professionals at your school or organization who can vouch for your participation. Inform your references and make sure that their contact information is up to date. Assume that the scholarship administrator will check your references.

7. Complete All Requirements - Follow the instructions and make sure that you have collected and provided all the required materials. Making a checklist of all the elements will help.

8. Don’t Miss the Application Deadline - Apply early and don’t procrastinate. Give yourself plenty of time to fill out the application and to gather required documents (reference letters and transcripts).

Ontario Student Assistance Program

OSAP applications for 2024-25 are NOW OPEN!

For many students, the loans they receive from OSAP are their first major financial commitment. This year, the OSAP application includes an information module to improve applicants’ understanding of the program, their roles and responsibilities as OSAP recipients and provide some basic financial information. This information will help students build the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.

Students who have questions about OSAP or the OSAP application can contact the Financial Aid Office at the college or university they are attending, or plan to attend.

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can help you pay for college or university.

OSAP offers funding through:
