Capstone Description:
The Oklahoma Team seeks to design a systemic reentry model for all youth in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) exiting an out-of-home placement. OJA plans to accomplish this goal by establishing the scope of work for OJA’s Director of Reentry position and enhancing communication with families, contracted placement providers, and community-based service partners through clear expectations of each team member’s roles and responsibilities.

Description:
The Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) seeks to reduce the use of isolation with the goal of eliminating the practice. The Oklahoma team Capstone Proposal focuses on staff response to aggression through de-escalation and role modeling, revising their youth treatment programming to include behavior modification system, and increase family engagement. This effort will require the involvement of youth, their families, staff, and stakeholders.

Capstone Description:
Develop an annual quality-training program for the judiciary and other juvenile court stakeholders on the educational rights of students with special education needs.
Update (2017):
In 2016, the team planned the Wrightslaw Special Education Conference with over 200 attendees. In 2017, the team planned a 2-day Enhancing Educational Success for Children and Youth in Care Conference, with a total of over 120 attendees. These conferences focused on training biological parents, foster parents, DHS caseworkers, Office of Juvenile Affairs workers, attorneys, judges, and therapists.

Capstone Update (2015):
OK Department of Human Services, Office of Juvenile Affairs, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and Department of Corrections signed a multi-agency data-sharing agreement, and has begun convening a data-sharing guiding coalition. The coalition has met monthly since June 2013. The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. The Capstone Project has supported the work of the Road to Independence Network two-year planning grant.
