Capstone Description:
Strengthen system integration for agencies working with crossover youth model through:
1. In-depth case reviews to develop a heightened understanding of the policies, practices, and key decision points that lead to youth's dual involvement.
2. Executing a MOU between the courts and Department of Health and Welfare that allows for a unique child identification number, which will facilitate better tracking of children in the child welfare system.
Capstone Update (2024):
Please note that all of these team members have retired or moved to new roles. Judge Murray has retired, but still serves as a Senior Judge helping in times of shortage. Before this, Judge Murray piloted the project and reforms in his district and then took it statewide. The team made some law changes, and more importantly, court rule changes allowing judges to have the power to expand cases from one system to another and also convene (require cooperation from) teams on behalf of youth to share information and resources and create a plan for the child and family. The teams include JJ, H&W, Education, family, child, and treatment providers.
