Grace Norton Rogers is a Pre-K, 3, 4, and 5 school located on Stockton Street in Hightstown. It is named in honor of a former teacher and lifelong resident of our community. The original building was first occupied in 1924 with additions completed in 1936, 1949, 1958, 1999 and 2005. We have frequent visits from our school mascot, “Spike.” Children wait for his planned arrival and jump for joy during his visits. All staff members love children and believe all students can grow emotionally and academically. We strive for student achievement, safety, and enjoyment of learning for all students. Our school has a strong sense of community and a positive learning environment.

Students participate in an integrated language arts program and experience a balanced literacy program. Children’s literature is the focus of most lessons through the School Wide Reading Resource . The reading and writing connection is created through the program, Empowering Writers . Most importantly, students are encouraged to participate in independent reading throughout the day to build their passion for knowledge and interests.

Teachers work with the students in areas of problem-solving during math instruction with our core resource Go Math . Lessons involve students in a variety of activities that include hands-on materials and technology while stressing higher levels of abstract thinking. Science involves students in real life activities through a discovery approach that introduces them to physical, earth, and life science. Dimensions is the district science resource.

Our fine arts program includes art, music, physical education/health, library, Spanish, and computers. Across all areas, teachers constantly challenge each child to meet their best potential. The school has a counselor who provides class, small group, and individual assistance. Conflict resolution is emphasized by the counselor and is reinforced through buddy classrooms and the Bully Busters Program . 

In addition to our rigorous academic program, we focus on social-emotional growth for our students. We emphasize self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills. Our school motto is PRIDE: Perseverance, Respect, Innovation, Dependability, and Enthusiasm. Students have the opportunity to join the Spike's Helpers Club, Yoga Club, Basketball Club, Art Club, Coding Club, Stem Club, Student Council, School Band, Chorus, and Yearbook committee.

Parents play a vital role in our school. We have an active Parent Teacher Organization, which supports the school with fundraisers and family nights. Teachers have frequent communication with parents and participate in a variety of out of school activities such as: Literacy Night, Ice Cream Bingo Night, and Pumpkin Carve In.

We believe the education of a child involves our staff, parents, and students. GNR is a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Lori Emmerson, Principal

My name is Lori Emmerson and I am honored to be the principal of the Grace N. Rogers Elementary School. I am a proud educator with 25 years of experience. I started my career as a Language Arts Special Education teacher and then moved on to become an instructional coach, supervisor, and assistant principal.

At GNR, we provide educational opportunities to ensure our students have a strong academic foundation on which they will be able to develop and build their skills set throughout their educational career. Additionally, through our fine arts classes and lunch clubs, we introduce students to activities that they can continue to explore and learn more about as they grow.

Our priorities also include providing an inclusive environment where all students are welcome and valued for who they are, giving them the confidence to take risks in the classroom and be their authentic selves.
