Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Fabrication
Built four coil array on acrylic test bed
Testing
Tested functionality of 4 coil array - Successful
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Manufactured more coils
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Connect H-bridge to coil array for negative voltage to allow for 360 degree stir bar rotation - Jordan, Edward
Print extra bobbins - Edward
Use COMSOL simulation to optimize B/wire volume and B/bobbin thickness - Nick
Order and begin using Raspberry Pi - Edward, Siddarth, Chris
Finish individual component analysis, report to each other of our findings - All
Purchase many components, tools, and pieces - Edward and Chris

03/23/17 - In person
Optimize for functionality, not cost
Buying higher quality materials
Taking more expensive strategies into account
37 degrees C is maximum allowable temperature
Moving forward with thicker wire to reduce coil temperatures
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
03/21/17 - In person
Move forward with COMSOL analysis of electromagnetic coils
COMSOL being used to optimize magnetic field
Using a motor with a permanent magnet to spin the stirrer rod
A motor is too big, will not meet the size requirements
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
None
Risks and Areas of Concern
Can the Raspberry Pi with H bridge control the whole system by itself, or do we need further controllers?
We may find that the coils aren't strong enough to move the magnetic stirring rod at the full speed.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
How to translate our Raspberry Pi code to a controller on a PCB
How to accurately calculate the strength of a multi-layer electromagnetic coil
