Catalogue of United States Martial Short Arms, Forward

This booklet is published to meet a demand indicated in letters to the publishers of UNITED STATES MARTIAL PISTOLS AND REVOLVERS, and lists only the U. S. martial arms described in that volume.

The prices entered herein are the result of compilation of average prices quoted in condition as stated, from the lists of a number of reputable dealers, as issued in recent years, (1936-39).

In cases where the arms catalogued have not been offered for sale in recent years, no attempt has been made to set an arbitrary price, but notation is made giving clue to relative values.

With full realization of the controversial nature of the subject and the difficulty of attempting quotations, considering the differences of condition in arms of the same model, and with admission of its many imperfections, this booklet is offered merely as a start in the right direction, towards a goal of a priced catalogue of all our arms.

With reference to condition, arms have been priced in three major classifications, fair, good and fine. Arms in new condition are found but seldom in historic pieces and command their own price; new late models in martial arms are priced in manufacturer's lists; arms in poor condition are hardly collector's items, and it is obviously impractical to make a listing of all the intermediate shades of condition between fair and extremely fine.

It is to be noted that the publishers of this catalogue do not deal in arms, and requests for information with reference to specimens mentioned in these pages must be addressed to established and recognized arms dealers, some of whose advertisements are listed in the back pages.

Those interested in detailed and complete descriptions, mechanism, production records and pertinent historical data of the arms listed herein are referred to our publication UNITED STATES MARTIAL PISTOLS AND REVOLVERS by Major Arcadi Gluckman, Infantry, U. S. Army.

Acknowledgement is made to Major Gluckman for preparation of descriptive data, and Mr. George Smoots of San Francisco, for his impartial and helpful advice and suggestions.

Additional and correctional data will be appreciated and incorporated in future editions.
