Working in Surround Sound
PRO TOOLS:
Open up a new Pro Tools session and make sure you have selected the '9.1.4 Dante" input and 'CR 1' speaker configuration button on the Grace m908 monitor controller
Open the Dante Controller App (has a green checkmark icon). Press the plus button next to "Dante Receivers" and "Dante Transmitters" to open up the full grid.
Scroll to the part of the grid where the Grace m908-RecordingStudio (in receivers) and CAC222AAEUH (in transmitters) overlap (see images below)
Click each empty box in a diagonal pattern following the initial two green checkmarks. Go all the way through the box on row/column ten (for surround sound higher than 7.1, also check the boxes on row/column 11 and row/column 12
5. Go back to your Pro Tools session and open "I/O" in the Setup tab of the upper menu (see image).
6. In the I/O menu, deselect outputs 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10. Select "OUTPUT" (the bottom one that is in 7.1 format). When you are done, it should look like the image below.
7. On selected tracks, go to the output menu and choose 'Output (7.1) -> Output' (shown below). For 5.1 surround, choose 'Output.5.1 (5.1)' (also shown below). You can now pan these tracks in surround!
To open up the surround panner, click the little tab on the right side of the Output button. The graph below should appear.
LOGIC:
Open up a new Logic session and make sure you have selected the '9.1.4 Dante" input and 'CR 1' speaker configuration button on the Grace m908 monitor controller

Click each empty box in a diagonal pattern following the initial two green checkmarks. Go all the way through the box on row/column ten (for surround sound higher than 7.1, also check the boxes on row/column 11 and row/column 12) (see images above in the pro tools section).
In your logic session, click on "Logic Pro" in the top section of your screen, then go to preferences, than to audio, than to I/O assignments. Select either 5.1 or 7.1 surround depending on the number of speakers you want to use. Match the speakers to the positions shown in the images below.
6. Go to tracks you want to use in surround and select 'Surround' as the output.
7. If you are using 7.1 surround, you will need to go to file, then project settings, than audio, and set 'surround format' to 7.1 as shown in the image below.
ABLETON:
NOTE: this section is currently unfinished and will be revised and fleshed out shortly - 12/6/2021
1. Make sure you have completed the configuration in the Dante controller app (described in the sections above) and make sure you are on the '9.1.4' input and have selected the CR1 speaker configuration on the grace m908 monitor controller.
2. Open up an Ableton Live session
3. Open the "surround panner" plug-in on a track (this can be found under the 'audio effects' section of the categories menu at the left of the screen.
4. Alternatively, you can open up the 'E4L source panner' on a track from the 'Envelop for Live' section of the Places menu at the left of the screen.
MANUAL:
If you would like to route channels to speakers manually and avoid surround sound panners or DAW specific processes, you can do so by changing the outputs on individual tracks.
Open up a session in your DAW of choice and make sure you are on the '9.1.4' input and have selected the CR 1 speaker configuration on the grace m908 monitor controller. Make sure you have completed the configuration in the Dante controller app (described in the sections above).
Choose the correct output on the desired track.
That's it! As we currently have it, here are the speaker assignments:
Upper ring left and right front: outputs 3 and 4
Upper ring center: output 5
Sub: output 6
Upper ring left and right directly to the side: output 7 and 8
Upper ring left and right middle back: output 9 and 10
Upper ring left and right back: 11 and 12
