Working in Surround Sound

PRO TOOLS:

5.  Go back to your Pro Tools session and open "I/O" in the Setup tab of the upper menu (see image).

6.  In the I/O menu, deselect outputs 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10.  Select "OUTPUT" (the bottom one that is in 7.1 format).  When you are done, it should look like the image below.

7.  On selected tracks, go to the output menu and choose 'Output (7.1) -> Output' (shown below).  For 5.1 surround, choose 'Output.5.1 (5.1)' (also shown below).  You can now pan these tracks in surround!

To open up the surround panner, click the little tab on the right side of the Output button.  The graph below should appear.

LOGIC:

6. Go to tracks you want to use in surround and select 'Surround' as the output.

7.  If you are using 7.1 surround, you will need to go to file, then project settings, than audio, and set 'surround format' to 7.1 as shown in the image below.

MANUAL:

If you would like to route channels to speakers manually and avoid surround sound panners or DAW specific processes, you can do so by changing the outputs on individual tracks.

Upper ring center: output 5

Sub: output 6

Upper ring left and right directly to the side: output 7 and 8

Upper ring left and right middle back: output 9 and 10

Upper ring left and right back: 11 and 12
