Connecting the MIDI keyboard to the ARP 2500
Connect the Kenton to the ARP using the red, black, and yellow ⅛” cables; black goes to CV, yellow goes to GATE, and red goes to AUX 1 in both the Kenton and the patching panel in the upper-right corner of the ARP, as shown below.
Make sure that the the 9V DC IN is plugged into the Kenton and then plugged into the power strip.
Connect the MIDI OUT of the Alesis to the MIDI IN (the leftmost MIDI socket) of the Kenton
Getting the MIDI keyboard to work:
When you press a key on the MIDI keyboard while connected to the Kenton box, a little red light should flash on the right screen of the box, like shown below. If the keyboard is not set to the correct MIDI channel, the light will not flash.
^^^working ^^^not working
To fix this issue, turn the Kenton box off and hold the select button while flipping the switch back on again. This will put the box into parameter mode, which should look like this:
Once in parameter mode, press one of the keyboard keys and the display will show which MIDI channel the keyboard is sending the messages to. Here, the keyboard is set to channel 16:
In order to change this, click the MIDI / SELECT button on the Alesis keyboard:
Then select the MIDI channel you want according to the white writing above the keyboard keys:
After pressing the key for channel 1 (the box’s default receive), click the MIDI / SELECT button again and test one of the keyboard keys. The box should now display the desired MIDI channel, like this:
Now after turning the box off and on again, the keyboard should work.
