Using and the Soundcraft Mixer for Monitoring and Recording
Synth room equipment policy:
All gear in the synth room should stay in the synth room unless users have special permission. Students may not move the ARP. Teachers can move it to the tracking room with appropriate planning, and moving it elsewhere requires extra special care and usually professional movers. Other synths can move with permission of the technical director (TD) and/or instructor (who will consult with the TD).
Room Layout:
Speakers are fed from the group outputs 1-2 of the Soundcraft mixer as well as the master. These are assigned on each channel by pressing the 1-2 button or the MST button by the fader on the channel. Make sure the group 1-2 faders are up, along with the channel and master faders.
The Arp2500 and the Verbos Modular both are connected to the Soundcraft mixer for monitoring and recording to the IMAC or user laptop.
By our convention, 2 mini to 1/4" cables (labeled 1 and 2) are connected from busses 19 and 20 of the Arp to inputs 1 and 2 of the mixer. We typically use bus 19 and 20 for the outputs of the 2 1006 FILTAMP modules on the right of the Arp.
Similarly, 2 mini to 1/4" cables (labeled 3 and 4) are usually connected from the Verbos 'Scan and Pan' left and right outputs to mixer inputs 3 and 4.
You may move the mini plugs to access other arp busses or Verbos modules (the amplitude and tone controller would be a logical alternative output, for instance), but please return them to this configuration.
The table across the room has a 6 channel snake connected to mixer channels 5-12 to connect other synths:
Patch cables are available for synth patching and for patching to the mixer directly (using mini to 1/4" cables). Again, please restore the configuration above if you make any changes. Also help keep the patch cables organized according the labels.
See Soundcraft mixer page for recording options and more mixer details.
