MAINTAIN YOUR BROWN TIES | NETWORK | INTERVIEW APPLICANTS | FOSTER INTERNSHIPS | LEAD
Stay connected with Brown through our receptions for visiting Brown faculty and administrators, Admission officers and Presidential visits. Celebrate with us as we commemorate Brown achievements and milestones like Brown 250. Participate in or support our events and strengthen the Brown presence in the local community through activities such as:
representing Brown at the annual Ivy Ball and annual MIT Sports Day family outing
sponsoring Brown Book awards for outstanding writers in local high schools
enriching yourself through our diverse cultural, social and charitable events
spreading the word about Brown at college fairs in local high schools
We also organize and participate in events that give members a chance to network with each other, with industry peers, with other university alumni and with leaders in government, business and NGO’s. Events have included frequent inter-university alumni cocktail mixers, the Ivy Golf Invitational, speaker luncheons featuring government ministers and local CEO’s and even an Ivy speed-dating activity.
Our community, connection and networking events can be browsed at Events & Photos where you are also told how to sign up for our email distribution list to be notified of upcoming events.
Admission interviews for Brown are conducted solely by volunteer alumni. If you want to interview, you first have to register for interviewing at the Alumni Interviewing Program website and you must establish your eligibility for interviewing. Interviews of applicants from high schools in Hong Kong are managed and assigned by the Alumni Interviewing Program Area Chairs for Hong Kong, who are also members of the BUAAHK Executive Board. They also organize the annual Acceptance and Send-Off receptions for the new freshmen. Funds for all of these activities come exclusively from the BUAAHK’s membership dues and revenues. Besides supporting Interviewing by becoming a BUAAHK member, please consider volunteering to interview applicants. It’s a really worthwhile activity that lets you recall why you chose Brown and what you got out of Brown and gives you a chance to help choose the incoming classes of students.
For more information, please contact the current Alumni Interviewing Program Area Chairs for Hong Kong, Danny Lee, ’88 and/or Martin Matsui, ’80, or contact the Alumni Interviewing Program’s current Regional Director for Asia (who happens to be resident in Hong Kong), Christine Van, ’81, all of whom may be reached at the BUAAHK Email.
Brown Connect is a campus-based initiative to increase student access to internship and research opportunities around the world and has a program and an alumnus volunteer leader in Hong Kong. If you wish to set up or offer an internship opportunity or you would like to attend one of the receptions for Brown students currently participating in local internships, please contact Brown Connect.
Alumni who want to become more active are welcome to run for the BUAAHK’s Executive Board positions. During the Annual General Meeting for those who are current members of the BUAAHK, we hold elections for members who have submitted position statements running for Executive Board officer roles. Please contact the BUAAHK Secretary at the BUAAHK Email for more information.
