Biographies for Our Speakers:

Felicia Sonmez is the editor of The Wall Street Journal's China Real Time Report, based in Beijing.  A 2005 graduate of Harvard University, she previously worked as a China correspondent for the international newswire Agence France-Presse and as a national political reporter for The Washington Post, covering Congress, the White House, and the 2012 presidential campaign.  She is a board member of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of China.

Chao Deng '09 volunteered at China Care at Brown, and graduated with concentrations in Neuroscience and Economics.  She is also a graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, and now reports on Asian markets at The Wall Street Journal.  She has helped cover the recent turmoil in China's currency and stock markets, and Hong Kong's Occupy protests in 2014.  Chao started writing about finance and markets in New York, at a trade publication called dealReporter and then at TheStreet.com.  She was based in Shanghai for Dow Jones Newswires between 2012-2014, writing about private equity, venture capital and the adventures of bitcoin on the mainland.

Joseph Fuqua '00, when not racing on Brown's championship crew team, concentrated in Computer Science.  After working in software for 6 years in the US, Joe got his MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA (not Duke), moved to Shanghai for 4 years, where he built a 12 person and 4 city (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Taipei) US education consultancy.  He currently co-heads Investor Relations for Phoenix Property Investors, a real estate private equity firm.
