Working in the Broadmeadow Media Center (our school library) is a great way to both see your child during the school day AND make a big difference in our school! Did you know that over 1,000 books circulate through the Broadmeadow library every week? Your child's weekly media period isn't just for taking out books - they also learn about different authors, illustrators and book genres, as well as how to do research using print and online resources, give a "book talk" review in front of classmates, and much more. Having volunteers handle shelving and checking books in and out allows librarian Jenn Potter to focus on teaching and working with children.
In order to volunteer you must sign up for a 20 minute refresher training (for returning volunteers) or a 40 minute training (for new volunteers) that will be led by Jenn Potter. You'll have the opportunity to learn how to properly check in and shelve books, identify where various genres are located, learn how to shelf-read, and practice putting books away. Our goal is to ensure that each volunteer knows the expectations and feels comfortable helping to maintain the beauty of our school's Media Center.
Once you have completed a mandatory refresher or full training session, you will gain access to the daily Media Volunteers Sign Up. Please note that even returning volunteers must complete a training session prior to volunteering in Media this year. The Media Volunteer SignUp will be available on Monday, September 30th for those who have completed the Volunteer Training.
Please click on the button below to review the available slots and sign up. If you can't join us for one of the scheduled sessions, contact us at media@broadmeadowptc.org to find a different time.
