I Heart Photography: Images have impact-- historically, socially, artistically, scientifically, politically, spiritually, etc... How do they impact you? Collect 10 photographs (from any source) and write an analysis for each discussing why you love it-- the intention? the meaning? the message? the aesthetics? Make sure to expand upon your reasoning considering the composition, color, lighting, subject, and/or impact (assemble images and writings in Google Slides).
Photographs that changed the world: Images have impact-- historically, socially, artistically, scientifically, politically, spiritually, etc... Choose an image from the list and gather as much information as possible to explain the overall significance/impact of the photograph. see PDF file attached below
Project 1 : Perfect Prints: darkroom It is important for photographers to have refined printing skills—to understand that the camera and the enlarger are both tools that control and capture light to create an image. Experiment using various techniques (cropping, filters, dodging and burning) to create clear and clean prints with range of value, necessary contrast, and strong composition.
Project 2 : Creative Prints: darkroom: Beyond clear, clean, and well composed prints, the enlarger is a tool that can manipulate and distort. There are many creative techniques (double negative, solarizing, montage, etc..) that you can experiment with in order to create thoughtful, artistic, and expressive images. The enlarger is a creative tool; results will vary but you need to experiment and problem solve in order to get the best results possible. Refer to powerpoint and technique booklet.
Project 3 : Perfect Prints: digital: It is important for photographers to have refined editing skills to create purposeful, controlled and dynamic images. Photoshop is a digital darkroom that helps us to perfect our work. The computer is a tool, not a quick fix: focus on control and visual quality using various techniques (cropping, clone-stamping, dodging and burning).
Project 4 : Creative Prints: digital: There are many creative techniques that you can experiment with in order to create thoughtful, artistic, and expressive images in Photoshop. It is important to have an artistic vision and then use the tools and information available to you to make it come to life. Work to create interesting images that show refined skills rather than artificial computer tricks. Refer to powerpoint and technique booklet.
Project 5 : Creative Light Effects: digital: In photography, it's all about the light. It all depends on the effect you want to produce-- the correct light, the right amount of light, extra light, "moving" light, and maybe almost no light! Think about atmosphere, mood, movement, reflections/shadows, and in camera effects. Use digital technology to enhance your light/effect but not create it. Create your main effect in the camera and then basic adjustments in photoshop to refine your final images.
