Week 1: (1/5-1/9)

Monday HW: due tomorrow-- in Goggle Slides research 5 things that you love and 5 artworks that you think are good.

1) 5 things you love (interests/hobby/places/people/etc...): find an artifact (picture, quote, etc...) of each and write a brief explanation of why you picked it.

2) 5 artworks you think are good: find a picture of each (famous artworks or everyday objects that you think are artistic) and write a brief explanation of why you think it is good art.

Week 2: (1/12-1/16)

1) Contour Line Drawings: turn in your best object drawing for a small study grade

2) Story Prompts: Symbolic Still-Life

Choose a prompt below to become the inspiration for your first project. When writing your story take into account all your senses: what did you smell, taste, feel, hear and see? This story should be a true account based on an event that you experienced. Include as much detail as possible and remember a story has a beginning, middle and end. One paragraph minimum but could be much longer. Write your story in a new google doc that share with teacher. Choose from one of the prompts below: due 1/14

1. Tell me about a time when you were the happiest.

2. Describe the events of your favorite vacation.

3. Write a story about your favorite holiday.

4. What was your greatest accomplishment and how did you achieve it?

5. If you have a story that is not a part of one of the above prompts and your would like to share it, write that story instead as long as it is true.

3) Anaylze your story and collect objects for still life drawing: bring 10 objects for Friday 1/16 (see Baroque/Realism ppt with student examples > drawing tab)

Week 3: (1/18-1/23)

Still Life drawing: organizing objects to create a dynamic composition; studio time to develop drawing

Weekend Homework: revise story if you have not completed it and join our google classroom with this code: mbsj3zw

Week 4: (1/26-1/30)

Still Life drawing: studio time to develop drawing; homework is extra time on your drawing; turn in any missing small study drawings (1 line; 1 value)

Gallery walk (in class): review student work mid-process and give some suggestions/feedback

Week 5: (2/2-2/6)

Still Life drawing: last day in class is Tuesday (because snow day on Monday); homework is extra time on your drawing; artist statement due Friday 2/6-- see Classroom

Surreal Collage: collect images; experiment with different arrangements (compositions)-- see Classroom for assignment; review powerpoints on our project 2 tab

Week 6: (2/9-2/13)

Painting: review acrylic techniques and color information; practice skills through small study paintings

Still Life Drawing Critique: please write a reflection about 1 piece-- include thoughts on composition, line work, value range, details and overall impression-- What is done well and why? Why did you choose this as the best piece?; see Classroom to turn it in; due Tuesday 2/17

* homework = additional time in studio to complete any missing work

Week 7: (2/16-2/20)

Painting: work on surreal painting; turn in small studies by Friday 2/20

* homework = additional time in studio to complete any missing work

Week 8: (2/23-2/27)

Painting: work on surreal painting; last day in class is Thursday-- no school Friday; work after school or take painting home to work; painting due 3/6

* weekend homework = 2 self-portrait sketches-- see announcement in classroom; due Monday 3/2

Week 9: (3/2-3/6)

Painting: artist statement (upload to classroom) and painting due 3/6

Mixed Media: work on small studies to explore a variety of media-- colored pencil, pen/ink, oil pastel, soft pastel, marker...

* homework = Monday: 2 self-portrait sketches working on exaggeration due Wednesday; Start bringing in papers and found images/objects to use in class
