A Vision for Civic Education at BPS
A comprehensive and effective civic education within the Boston Public Schools requires a collaboration across all BPS community members in order to provide opportunities to deepen our students’ civic learning by:
Building civic knowledge, critical thinking skills, participatory skills, and dispositions
Examining how individual and collective identity influences decision-making that leads to taking informed action.
Establishing meaningful relationships with community organizations to develop opportunities for civic participation that engages individual school interests.
Exposure to diverse perspectives at local, national, and global levels.
Participating in developmentally appropriate action civics projects
