A Vision for Civic Education at BPS

A comprehensive and effective civic education within the Boston Public Schools requires a collaboration across all BPS community members in order to provide opportunities to deepen our students’ civic learning by:

• Building civic knowledge, critical thinking skills, participatory skills, and dispositions
• Examining how individual and collective identity influences decision-making that leads to taking informed action.
• Establishing meaningful relationships with community organizations to develop opportunities for civic participation that engages individual school interests.
• Exposure to diverse perspectives at local, national, and global levels.
• Participating in developmentally appropriate action civics projects
