We are excited to collaborate with iCivics, in partnership with NBC Boston, to offer an exciting initiative for 8th grade BPS teachers to help them Activate civic learning and engagement in their classrooms, and beyond. Throughout the year, iCivics Will Offer Teachers Vital Support as they initiate and implement their projects, including an online forum for resources and shared best practice, a dedicated iCivics staff contact, regular milestone celebrations and face-to-face discussions.
All participating schools will be invited to present their completed projects for Recognition and Award Consideration at an end-of-year showcase, featuring VIP judges, as well as city and state officials.What’s more, both the Expo and select projects throughout the year will be Featured on NBC Boston’s News Programming. The 2018 MA History and Social Studies Frameworks provides new standards for our 8th grade civics course. This is a well-timed, transitional opportunity to prepare, support, and motivate teachers! The BPS History Team and Louis Dube from iCivics receive a check for $95,000 for the Activate Civics Project. NBCUniversal Foundation chose iCivics as one of the winners of its inaugural Project Innovation Grant.
