SCRIPT

He comes into the park, and camera follows him, holding on the great neon sign on the nearby rise which emits a garish light.

THOMAS hurries on.

The park is deserted, silent, dark.

Only the leaves rustle faintly in the breeze.

THOMAS comes up the steps into the meadow, and camera moves back in front of him.

He quickens his pace.

He comes to the meadow.

The light from the neon sign barely shows his path.

He breaks into a run.

THOMAS hurries forward, then slows down, hesitantly, as he nears the bushes.

Close-up of THOMAS.

Camera moves in on him as he stops suddenly, then tilts down, revealing the ghastly white face of a dead man.

It is the GIRL’s companion.

THOMAS steps forward.

He looks round nervously as camera moves across to the rustling bushes.

Then down he stoops over the corpse.

Close-up of THOMAS.

His eyes betray his awareness of the gravity of the event rather than panic or terror.

Close-up of the dead man, his face stiffened in the same, diffident, ambiguous expression which THOMAS had seen in the morning, when he was still alive, strolling there with the GIRL.

THOMAS rises very slowly.

Close-up of THOMAS.

A sound like a twig snapping makes him whip round.

He peers in amongst the trees, where the murderer stood that morning.

The impenetrable darkness, that could still be hiding someone, sends a chill down his spine.

Another, fainter sound.

THOMAS moves, looking cautiously all around.

The light from the neon sign silhouettes him and the figure on the grass.

He sets off at a run towards the path leading to the exit, turning back from time to time to see if someone – the murderer perhaps – is not following him.
