• GREENWARE - Clay not yet fired
• BISQUEWARE- Clay that has been fired (baked) once
• LEATHERHARD CLAY - Clay that has lost moisture but you can still add to it
• STONEWARE - Clay that is fired at a higher temperature. Clay is then impervious to water
• EARTHENWARE - Clay that is fired at a lower temperature
• ADDITIVE CLAY TECHNIQUE - Follow these 3 steps when joining 2 pieces of clay together as you sculpt
1. Score the edges of both pieces of clay with a needle tool (or serrated rib)
2. Slip - Dab some slip to both pieces of clay where you scored (Slip = clay+ water)
3. Weld - Join the 2 pieces of clay then, roll a thin "worm" of clay to fill the seam where the joined pieces meet. Use a modeling tool to blend the worm to cover the seam
• WEDGING CLAY - "kneading" clay to remove trapped air so clay is useable. (Air bubbles trapped in clay can cause breakage during the firing process as the trapped air is heated and tries to escape)
