This class is for self-motivated art students who have taken multiple art classes and wish to further develop their creative voice and personal style in art. Drawing and painting will be the main focus for portfolio development, however, students may explore other media they are proficient in to create original artwork. Looking at both traditional and contemporary art, students will be encouraged to take risks and explore new ways of visual communication with more open ended projects. Students will also be expected to analyze and reflect upon their own artwork and that of others.
Emphasis will be on the continued development of quality artwork for a portfolio for personal satisfaction and expression or for college entry. In addition, information about college art programs and individual assistance in career planning will be available to interested students considering art beyond high school. Students will also maintain a drawing journal with observational drawings and create a digital portfolio or website featuring their best artwork just as a professional artist does.
- Learn about and discuss the role of an artist in society.
- Digital Citizenship - Using proper references & copyright. Originality!
*Drawings should be drawn from life - subjects in front of you vs. photos

CHECK with the specific colleges you are interested in applying to for specific requirements.
You should meet with Mrs. Layden to review your portfolio early in the semester to see what artwork you need to add to your portfolio as you explore your own concepts, themes and various media.
PARTICIPATE IN: College Open houses, Portfolio College Fairs, College Reps who visit the class and Individual appointments.
WORK EFFICIENTLY IN CLASS: You may need to work faster to get your portfolio completed before the end of the class to be ready for any college reviews you may have scheduled.
Consider your Portfolio as an evolving creation. As an artist you will continually be adding and replacing older work with better work, newer work as you grow and improve.
