Second Grade Newsletter 4/26/2013

Our Second Annual Sustainability Fair was a huge success, our second grade students raised over $100 for their upcycled notebooks! We are so impressed with their hard work and entrepreneurship!

Goals for this week:

Science –

-Observe how a change in temperature can cause the change of state of material

-Establish that melting and solidification transform the physical state of matter and can change its shape

-Explore how evaporation dries objects by changing the physical state of substances

-Explain that materials that look similar can react differently

-Review water cycle

-Make a new material with new properties

-Demonstrate the need for a clear and detailed procedure to consistently make a new product

-Catapult competition at FRCC

-Catapult design and improvement

-Force and motion

-Trace transmission of motion and transfer of energy through the machine

-Create a programmable model to demonstrate the knowledge and operation of digital tools and technological systems

-Build and test the airplane’s power level and movement

-Improve the airplane by programming sounds to coordinate with the feedback from the tilt sensor

-Understand how tilt sensor values to control the timing of the motor and the type of sounds played

Math

-Introduce multiplication and division fact families

-Practice multiplication and division facts

-Progress Check 11

-Unit 11 Math USB Due

-Start Unit 12 Homework

-Review time equivalencies and calendar facts
