Principal's Message

Impress Them on Your Children

Research has consistently shown the importance of parent engagement in the development of children into responsible, upright and contributing adults. I guess this is not surprising since we are exhorted to impress God’s commands on our children using all means and at all times (Deuteronomy 6:7). This involves not just words but also actions on the part of parents, what some translations of the verse describe as ‘teach diligently’. As your son comes into ACS (Barker Road), he will spend a significant amount of time in the school and I want to invite you to join the school in our journey to moulding the heart, mind and soul of your son.

Many fathers and mothers have joined the school in our journey of teaching diligently.  There is a willingness to make a difference in the lives of the young men that study in our school, and I am truly thankful to all who are part of Family@Barker.  Their acts of love, dedication and commitment touch the lives of our young men in a very tangible way.  When they see parents cooking and serving them food as part of Food Ministry, teaching in Lighthouse Ministry, organising parent-son activities or even to pray for them, they imbibe the value of service and grow to become more thoughtful and less self-centred as individuals.

Together with the Family@Barker leadership team, I invite you to participate in one of the many opportunities where you can join us in our journey of impressing the hearts of young men in ACS (Barker Road).  In doing so, you become a role model for your son.  Though your son may not, at this stage of life, ask you to be a part of Family@Barker, many of our current and former students say that they are so proud that their fathers or mothers volunteered in one or more programmes in our school.*

Actually, it is a simple message you transmit by volunteering.  They would see over time that you give time to things that matter.  If you give time to be part of Family@Barker, you must see the value in his education and schooling here.  So, if it is important for you, he will also learn to value his education here.

Come on board with us.  I assure you that it will be a journey you will enjoy, for The Best Is Yet To Be!

Yours sincerely,

Loo Ming Yaw
