The 2013 Barker Challenge was held on the 4th and 5th of June 2013. This year's competition saw nine participating teams, from Anglo-Chinese School Independent (ACSI), Outram Secondary School (OSS), Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), Raffles Institution (RI) and host Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) (ACSBR).

The two-day competition was conducted through a round-robin format before the semi-final and final matches. Many of the schools fielded both A and B teams and put many of their talented younger players into the pool to expose them in friendly competition. The mood around the pool was congenial with many smiles, jokes and friendships made and renewed amongst players, teachers and parent supporters alike.

ACSBR Team A emerged champions when they beat their brethren ACSI Team A in the finals. OSS Team A came in third against tough opponents HCI Team A after a nail biting penalty shoot-out when their match ended in a draw at regulation time. Mr Syed Faizal, Sports Secretary (ACSBR) gave away the tournament prizes.

It was a great time of bonding, testing new blood and having fun at the pool. Thanks to the referees and officials from Singapore Water Polo who served faithfully in the hot sun; players, teachers and parents who participated wholeheartedly and Delfina, who sponsored the prizes for our lucky draw.

See you at next year’s Barker Challenge!
