Dear Parent,

MOE ExCEL Fest is an annual event that celebrates and shares exciting and innovative practices in schools. It is also a platform for parents and members of the public to find out more about the latest developments in our education landscape. MOE ExCEL Fest 2011 will be open to the public on 2 April 2011 (Saturday) at the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The theme for ExCEL Fest 2011, Different Pathways to Success: Strong Fundamentals, Future Learnings, turns the spotlight on the diverse pathways in Singapore’s education landscape. The diversity of opportunities cater to children with different needs and abilities. Through these opportunities, we aim to nurture our children to realise their fullest potential, to equip them with knowledge and skills to face future challenges, and to prepare them with the foundation for lifelong learning.

COMPASS (COMmunity and PArents in Support of Schools) has invited one of the members, Mr Jason Wong, Director/Juvenile Homes in MCYS cum Secretariat Dads for Life, to speak at one of the MOE ExCEL Fest Seminar Sessions on 2 April 2011. Mr Wong will touch on the critical role parents play in guiding and influencing the developmental outcomes of their children in his presentation, "Keeping Your Child Trouble-Free".

About the Presentation

Parents want their children to do well in school and in life. Yet, children seem to be getting themselves into trouble these days. How can parents protect their children when they are constantly exposed to anti-social values? What can parents do to keep their

children safe from negative peer influences?

Today’s children and teenagers also have to deal with many issues in their growing years, such as failures and rejection, anger and rebellion, and parent-child conflicts. If not handled properly, these issues can derail and disrupt their life.

Drawing from research evidence, his 17 years of experience working with prisoners, and close to 4 years working with children and youths at risk, Mr Jason Wong will touch on the critical role that fathers as well as mothers play in guiding and influencing the developmental outcomes of their children. Using inspiring and moving video clips, testimonies and a short film, He will also share practical tips on what parents can do to help their children stay out of trouble.

We believe parents, our significant Partners in Education, would benefit from attending this Seminar Session.
