ACS (Barker Road) played host to the third and final leg of the ONE ACS Blood Donation Drive, with similar blood drives held days earlier at ACS (Independent) and ACJC.  The ONE ACS Blood Donation Drive was also a community service project in celebration of the 130th anniversary of ACS’ founding in Singapore, as we are called to serve, through the common theme verse adopted by all ACS schools this year: “Serve one another humbly in love.” (Galatians 5:13b).

Former students of ACS (Barker Road) who had returned for the school’s Homecoming, staff members and parents came together on Saturday 27 February to give the gift of life.  To help meet the target of 130 donors, Family@Barker also spread the word to all our parent volunteers.  At the Family@Barker booth which was set up in the Auditorium alongside the blood drive, we shared with visitors the work which Family@Barker does and sold our limited edition car decals.

The sentiment on the day of the blood drive was best described by these donors:

It's not as painful or scary as I initially thought it would be. And each donor can potentially save 3 lives, because the blood is separated into red blood cells, platelets and plasma.

~ Rachel Ho, first-time donor and Family@Barker parent volunteer

We want to support the school, and this event is especially meaningful because ACS is 130 years old this year.

~ Chew Weng Kheong and Victor Yoong.  Both are regular donors and have sons in ACS (Barker Road)
