Would you like to know why teachers always make students read? There are many people in the world, especially adolescents, who don’t understand the purpose of reading, or don’t even enjoy it. They don’t understand why it’s important or how it could be considered fun and relaxing. Reading is actually very important and can be quite enjoyable.
Reading is a vital skill to learn for future jobs and schooling purposes. In every school, each student is required to have the ability to write and pronounce words and vocabulary at a certain skill level. Reading is one of the best ways to learn how to write and be creative. “Research has shown that pupils who read for pleasure show positive progress in their vocabulary, spelling and even maths,” According to an article from Oslis called ‘Should You Read For Fun Every Day.’
Reading also has more to it than just improving school grades. It can also help improve social skills and your wellbeing. Studies have shown that those who spend more of their time reading can socialize better, which includes talking about the story or novel that they are reading.
“What if I don’t like to read?”
There are also people who just don’t care for reading. There are also students who want to love reading so that they can do better in school. Luckily, there is a solution for that: Read-alouds. These are where people record themselves reading books. They tend to make it fun and enjoyable, like adding voices and sound effects. “Read-alouds can also be educationally broadening for the whole family,” says an article called, ‘How To Get More Great Read-Alouds In Your Day,’ from the Oslis website.
Read-alouds are still educational, can mold writing skills, and thinking skills. The author from the article, ‘How To Get More Great Read-Alouds In Your Day,’ says that, “Read-alouds have so many emotional benefits! Read-aloud time is bonding time.” So, read-alouds are just as educational as hand-held books.
To start, try finding some time in your day to read. This could be before school, after school, or maybe during a break. At home, you could give yourself at least twenty minutes to read quietly, or listen to an audio book while working on homework, or a project. You could even give yourself goals, like getting through five chapters per day for example, to make it more fun, and get yourself motivated.
Overall, books are a great way to educate yourself and view the world. They are a vital part of each individual's learning journey and experience. Although reading is important, it’s also good to take breaks from reading, even if you’re the most experienced reader. Too much of anything isn’t good for the human brain. So, if you're thinking next, “why should we read?’ then ask yourself this question: How could you write and how could you learn without books?
