What is a better pet, cats or dogs? Are you a cat person or a dog person? This has been a debate for thousands of years. The US is renowned as a nation of pet-lovers and cats and dogs are by far the most popular; 45.5% of households own a dog, and 32.1% own a cat. Cats and dogs are great companions in their own ways.
Both cats and dogs can boost your health. Children who live with dogs during their first years of life seem to have fewer respiratory tract and ear infections, while several studies have suggested that ownership of either pet reduces stress levels, and may lower blood pressure. You have to take dogs on walks. “A 2017 study published in the journal BMC Public Health found that dog owners spent an additional 22 minutes a day walking, taking 2,760 more steps a day, and sitting down significantly less.”
When it comes to cats, older people owning a cat may reduce your chances of dying from cardiovascular disease. Cats don't need walking, so they don't affect step count. Cats are good for people who travel a lot because you don’t need to take them on walks or outside to go to the bathroom. It is also cheaper to own a cat rather than a dog. Cats are more calm and chill rather than a crazy dog.
Pros of owning a cat are low maintenance, affectionate companionship, lower space requirements, and an independent nature. Cons of owning a cat are limited trainability, scratching behavior, and allergies.Taking care of a cat is definitely more affordable than owning a dog or dogs. Cats are also great snuggle buddies. They also love to play.
Pros of owning a dog are unconditional love, compassionship, emotional support, trainability, active lifestyle, and social opportunities. Cons of owning a dog are time, commitment, high maintenance, a lot of space, allergies, traveling, and picking up poop. Dogs are fun to play with and take on walks. They are much more active than cats. With dogs it is harder to travel because they need constant care.
Personally I like cats better than dogs because I have 4 cats, Duncan, Smokey, Lloyd, and Harry. I also like dogs but since I have cats I like them better. Regardless of your choice between cats or dogs, both cats and dogs are great companions that bring joy and happiness into our lives. So which do you like better, cats or dogs?
