Close By, 2008 resulted from a month long stay as a guest artist at the Algarden Printmaking Center in Boras, Sweden. I created this installation in a small circular metal domed 19th century “pumphouse” on the art center’s grounds. A 30-inch-deep, 26-foot-long band of black and white photocopy images circled the interior. The windows on the sunny side of the drum of the dome were covered with a patchwork quilt of translucent plastics.

Shadows from the heavy beams supporting the dome, colored light, and white light played across the band of imagery, changing minute by minute. The images were developed from drawings made as I explored the historic buildings and beautiful landscape of the art center’s campus.
