Art Sustains

Art Sustains, 2006, was my first project in the Washington State University Merrill Library Atrium. My rug like artwork was placed in the center of the room where light from the skylight created the strongest patterns. Between the photocopy prints in the piece, through a translucent backing, the marble floor could be glimpsed.

The work was part of a Palouse Women Artists show with the same title. I took as my premise “art sustains the artist.” The center of the circle was made with photocopy prints from the Palouse area of Idaho where I live, the second to outermost ring presented artwork from a sabbatical stay in Montreal (extras from my Sight Seeing project) and the outside ring was composed with imagery based on more recent visits to Spain (extras from Cuenca:paseosViva España!).
