Doddridge County Citizen Arrests
This page is under construction and will take a while. I decided to compile a list of citizens arrested from Doddridge County. This was a safe "Union" county, yet had a comparatively large number of arrests. I will add census data to those names I can find in the Doddridge 1860 census.
By the 1860 Census Doddridge County had 1,020 men aged 20 + years, meaning that almost all would have been voting in 1861. The recorded vote for Doddridge on Virginia's secession ordinance on May 23, 1861 was a majority of 650 against the ordinance. Assuming an 80% turnout the vote would approximately have been 733 against and 83 in favor.
When you look at the Federal arrest rate for Doddridge you find that approximately 1 of every 20 voters was arrested and sent to Camp Chase, an astonishingly high rate.
